HushSearch
Your privacy matters. But nothing online is completely invisible.
Why I created HushSearch
I created HushSearch as an in-browser search engine with one goal: to give people a simpler, quieter way to explore the internet while keeping their private lives private.
I believe your personal life should stay personal. What you search for, what you explore, and what you do online shouldn't automatically become someone else's business.
But I also believe in telling you the truth.
The internet is not a private place by default.
Every website you visit, every account you sign into, and every connection you make can leave digital traces.
HushSearch was created with privacy in mind, but it cannot guarantee complete anonymity. Before using HushSearch, there are some things you should understand.
What HushSearch does
- Keeps searches out of historyResults load inside the page, so the web address never shows what you typed.
- Keeps no logsThe server passes your search to DuckDuckGo and forgets it. Nothing is written down.
- Opens sites inside itselfPages you click load inside HushSearch, so they stay out of your history too.
The reality of online privacy
Your internet activity can still be visible
Even when using HushSearch, your internet activity doesn't magically disappear.
Your internet service provider, network administrator, or other services may still be able to see certain information about your connections.
HushSearch does not hide your IP address from the search provider or make you anonymous.
Tracking exists almost everywhere
The internet is built around connections, data, and identifiers.
Websites may use cookies, tracking pixels, browser fingerprinting, and other technologies to recognize visitors.
A 2016 Princeton University study of the top one million websites found Google tracking code on most of them. Google Analytics alone appeared on nearly 70% of the sites studied.
That's a historical research finding, not a measurement of how many trackers are on your computer right now.
Even with privacy tools, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed.
How to stay more private
- Turn on Hush Mode. Tap the shield in the search bar. It pauses history and skips optional third-party images like site icons.
- Use a private window. Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome and Edge, Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox.
- Block trackers. An extension like uBlock Origin stops most tracking scripts before they load.
- Use Tor Browser for sensitive searches. It hides which sites you visit from your network and internet provider.
- Think before you share. No tool can take back something you've posted or typed into a site.
Questions
Where do the results come from?
From DuckDuckGo. HushSearch asks for results on your behalf and shows them in its own layout, with ads removed. Site icons and image thumbnails load through DuckDuckGo's image service.
Does HushSearch save my searches?
Not on the server, ever. On your own device, only if you turn on search history in Settings. It's off by default, and Hush Mode pauses it.
Can my school, work, or parents still see what I do?
Possibly. On a managed device or network, monitoring software can see your screen and the sites you visit, no matter which search engine you use.
What do !yt and !w do?
They're quick commands. Type !yt funny cats to search YouTube, or !w space for Wikipedia. The full list is in Settings. Using one sends your search to that site.
Is HushSearch free?
Yes. There are no accounts and no ads.
A message from the creator
I made HushSearch because I believe people deserve a better, more private browsing experience.
But I won't lie to you.
Nothing connected to the internet should be assumed to be completely untraceable.
Privacy isn't a magic button. It's something we work to protect. HushSearch is a step toward that goal, not a promise of total invisibility.
Be careful what you share. Understand what websites collect. Protect your personal information.
Stay curious. Stay aware. Stay private.
